Chairperson of University Council Xu Tao Led a Delegation to Hong Kong and Macao for Official Visits

From January 4 to 10, Xu Tao, Chairperson of University Council, led a delegation to Hong Kong and Macao for official visits. The delegation visited universities, education authorities, educational institutions, and key secondary schools, aiming to advance talent cultivation and research collaboration with institutions in Hong Kong and Macao, and to support the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Participants included Jin Qinglu, Dean of the School of Accountancy; Ding Haoyuan, Associate Dean of the School of Business; Ma Ji, Deputy Director of the President’s Office; and Wang Lei, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office.

Visits to Universities in Hong Kong and Macao

The delegation visited The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the University of Macau, and City University of Macau, achieving multiple substantive cooperation outcomes.

Visit 1

At The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the delegation met with President Teng Jin-Guang and Associate Vice President Wang Zuankai. Secretary Xu Tao introduced SUFE’s latest progress in digital and intelligent transformation, while President Teng presented developments in interdisciplinary research at PolyU.

Both sides agreed to further elevate the level of cooperation and signed a joint PhD training agreement in accounting, marking a substantial step forward in cultivating high-level innovative talents.

At the University of Macau, the delegation held talks with President Song Yonghua and Yu Jun, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. Xu Tao introduced SUFE’s initiatives in talent recruitment and interdisciplinary development in the era of digital intelligence, while President Song highlighted the development, operation, and future plans of the Hengqin campus.

Both sides reached a consensus on establishing a comprehensive and in-depth strategic partnership. They agreed to integrate their strengths, leverage SUFE’s advantages in economics and management, and carry out all-round cooperation in collaborative research innovation, think tank development, and joint undergraduate training, in order to serve national strategic needs.

At City University of Macau, the delegation held in-depth discussions with Vice President Zhou Wanlei, Zhang Weiguang, Dean of the Faculty of Finance, and Huang Jiashun, Associate Dean of the School of Business. The delegation focused on the university’s distinctive practices in research on Portuguese-speaking countries and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Both sides signed a student exchange agreement between business schools, providing more opportunities for mutual visits and exchanges. They also explored the feasibility of cooperation in academic visits and short-term exchange programs based on their respective disciplinary strengths.

Research on Overseas Education Initiatives

At the Hong Kong Institute of Financial Management, Secretary Xu Tao reviewed the operation of SUFE’s postgraduate teaching site in Hong Kong and held in-depth discussions with Chairman Wang Zhongying on leveraging the advantages of Shanghai and Hong Kong and exploring the feasibility of establishing an overseas research institute.

The delegation also visited the University of Chicago Booth School of Business Hong Kong campus and exchanged views with Ms. Katie Hrinyak, Assistant to the President, on topics such as overseas education experience of top global business schools, executive education leveraging Hong Kong’s role as a financial center, organizing high-level academic forums, and establishing joint workshops.

In addition, the delegation visited the Sun Yat-sen University Hong Kong Advanced Institute and the Shandong University Hong Kong Institute, holding discussions with their respective directors Xu Anlong and Wang Zhen and their management teams.

Engagement with Education Authorities

During the visit to Hong Kong, the delegation visited the Education Bureau and met with Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin and Principal Assistant Secretary Ji Sang. Both sides conducted in-depth discussions on policy environments.

In Macao, the delegation met with Li Xuefei, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs, and Gong Zhiming, Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao.

To attract high-quality student sources, the delegation visited Pui Kiu Middle School in Hong Kong and Pui Tou Middle School in Macao.
